The Supreme Court of Ghana has struck out former Attorney General Martin Amidu as defendant in the suit filed by private legal practitioner David Ametefe, who is seeking interpretation from the apex court on whether a sole judge hearing a case before the court can interpret the constitution.
The sole judge had ruled in the highest court that Amidu must orally examine businessman Alfred Woyome in the controversial case of the GHS52 million judgment debt scandal. But Mr Ametefe filed a suit challenging that ruling.
The apex court said Mr Ametefe, despite rightly invoking the jurisdiction of the court, should not have listed the former Attorney General as a defendant. A cost of GHS5000 was awarded against Mr Ametefe.
He was asking the court to set aside the ruling by Justice Anin Yeboah, who, as a sole judge, held that the former Attorney General must orally examine businessman Alfred Woyome.
