Woyome angry after adjournment of his case

The case in which the state is accusing businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome of defrauding it of Ghc 51 million has once again been adjourned.

Joy News correspondent Anny Osabutey reported that the adjournment became necessary after the prosecution failed to call witnesses for hearing today.

Prosecutors pleaded with the High Court hearing the case to give them two weeks to assemble their witnesses.

Following the adjournment Mr Woyome angrily told Joy FM’s reporter exclusively that the state was wasting his time and undermining his business.

“You have disgraced us, you’ve done all that you can do against my rights; for more than one year, I don’t work, my companies’ accounts have been frozen…..and you continue to come over here and say that you are looking for witnesses? Do you bring people to court before you start looking for witnesses?…You can’t just bring people to court and be searching for witnesses,” he stated.

Leading members of the opposition New Patriotic Party including its 2012 presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo were useful witnesses for the prosecution, he said, sarcastically.

Mr obtained a GH¢51m judgement debt award but the state is contending that he obtained the award fraudulently.

It brought criminal charges against him last year but the prosecution has given reason or another for not fast-tracking the case.

Several times hearing has either been adjourned due to the absence of prosecution or failure of prosecutors to produce witnesses.

Mr. Woyome says he is frustrated by the attitude of the state in the case.
