Kumai, April 8, GNA – A 94-year old World War II veteran, has added his voice to the appeals for calm in Bawku to allow peace and security to prevail.
Ex-Sergeant Alex Boakye encouraged people in Bawku to smooth over the feud and give peace the chance.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, he said, it was time the factions to the bloody conflict accepted to put the bitterness of the past behind them and did away with the obsession for vengeance. Sergeant Boakye was a Wireless Operator of the 82nd Division of the British Armed Forces that fought German and Japanese troops in Burma. He is one of the few surviving African soldiers of that War. He advised the youth in Bawku not to allow self-seekers to hide behind them to create chaos and confusion.
Ex Sergeant Boakye said they should rather channel their energies into productive ventures and lead disciplined lives. The War veteran said violence in all forms must be avoided and that Ghanaians as a people should foster good neighbourliness. 8 April 10
