World Vision to carry out research in Ahanta West

Takoradi, July 7, GNA – World Vision (WV) Ghana has organised a two-day training programme in Takoradi for 35 research assistants, who would be carrying out a survey on child protection in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.

The study would identify and examine among other things the location, incidence, causes and prevalence rates of child rights abuses in the District.

Participants discussed sampling procedures, interview techniques and ethics, questionnaire on the child, adult and focus groups, and soliciting of inputs from children, opinion leaders and chiefs among others.

Mr Ernest Ofori Asamoah, Ahanta West WV District Programme Officer, said the participants after the programme would be involved in a survey that would help to provide a scientific data for developing child rights advocacy strategies.

He said WV was committed to protecting children’s rights and urged other stakeholders to work hard to ensure that children were fully protected from abuses and parental neglect.

Mr John Yankson, Ahanta West Area Manager of WV, said children were a blessing to society and it was, therefore, necessary to guide and protect them because of their vulnerability.

Mr John Hackman, Western Regional Director of National Commission for Civic Education, said the Government had empowered district assemblies to enact relevant byelaws to compel parents to take full responsibility of their children.

Child protecting survey on child labour, survival rights, cultural practices, development, are being conducted in other areas in the country.

The areas include Saboba-Chriponi, Tolon-Kunbungu, Bongo, Atebubu, Sekyere East, Twifo Praso, Ga West and Nkwanta.
