Kejabil (W/R), Nov 17, GNA – World Vision-Ghana (WV-G), under its water and sanitation programme, has provided 48 boreholes fitted with hand pumps to 37 communities in the Ahanta West district at a total cost of 2.9 billion cedis.
The World Vision with assistance from the Ahanta West District Assembly, community leaders and other stakeholders also constructed 150 household places of convenience and 12 eight-seater public KVIP toilets in the area.
Mr Jacob Kutin, a representative of WV-G, said these efforts and intensification of health education programmes had contributed to the eradication of cholera and other water borne diseases from the area. He was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Kejabil in the Ahanta West District on Wednesday to inaugurate a borehole fitted with hand pump provided by WV-G at the cost of 84.6 million cedis, the occasion which also marked the opening of WV-G projects in the area. Mr Kutin said the World Vision, which began operating in the district about 10 years ago, had worked with the people and institutions to promote health, education and sanitation and provide good drinking water and organised skills training programmes for the youth to raise the standard of living of the people.
He said WV-G would initiate capacity building and training programmes for more than 500 people to better their lives.
Mr Paul Woods, Programme Officer of World Vision-Australia, commended the people for the assisting the WV-G to achieve its developmental goals in the district.
Mr Peter Amenu Kpornyo, Ahanta West District Coordinating Director, told the people not to expect the government or organisations alone to provide them with all their developmental need but rather initiate self-help programmes.
He said: “You should not continue to be beggars, you must do things for ourselves” and called for the proper management of Word Vision projects. Nana Kwaku Darko III, chief of Kejabil, commended WV-G for executing the projects and appealed for the building of more educational and health facilities.
At Agona-Nkwanta, Mr Woods, on behalf of World Vision- Australia presented six poly tanks valued at 42 million cedis to the Ahanta West District Assembly for distribution to selected communities in the area.
