The Mfantseman Area Development Programme (ADP) of the World Vission International (WVI) an NGO on Friday donated assorted drugs worth over five million cedis to Saltpond Government Hospital.
The drugs mostly anti-biotics were to be sold to patients at a token fee and the proceed used as a revolving fund to boost drug supply at the hospital.
Mr Theodore Afare WVI Director in-charge of Southern sector, who made the presentation said the organisation has been rendering humanitarian services in the 10 regions of the country for the past 25 years.
Mr Afare said they have realised that health services in the rural areas were inadequate and therefore have decided to complement the government’s efforts in such areas.
He said the organisation was expecting another consignment of drugs and clothings for distribution to people from needy families.
Dr Frederick Vormawor, Medical Superintendent in-charge of the hospital who received the items expressed gratitude to the donors and said the donation would go a long way to alleviate the plight of patients, who find it difficult to pay for the cost of drugs.
Dr. Vormawor appealed to donor agencies and philanthropists to help the hospital to render quality health service to the people.
“We are very determined to give of our best but inadequate facilities have been thwarting our efforts”, he said adding, “no donation would be considered too small,” he assured.
On behalf of the District Director of Health Services, Mr. J.B. Abaidoo-Abbam the hospital administrator thanked World Vision International for sponsoring six officers in the Mfantseman District to attend a week-long workshop on Mutual Health Insurance Scheme at Dodowa.
