World Health Day focus on food safety

On the occasion of World Health Day 2015, 7 April, the World Health Organization (WHO) will draw attention to the issue of food safety.

WHO will outline how globalization and the international reach of the food safety chain offers great opportunities — and threats — for human health, and also providing new figures on food borne illnesses.

A statement issued by the WHO and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday said the slogan for World Health Day 2015 is “From farm to plate, make food safe.”

It said WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan would stage the global launch of World Health Day at the Rungis International Market, near Paris, France on 7 April; including a tour of the market, press conference and other media opportunities. Representatives of French Ministries of Health and Agriculture, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Organization for Animal Health.

The statement saidt WHO Regional and Country offices would also be staging events to mark the day.
