Aveme-Danyigba (V/R),- A 141 million cedis health centre built under a World Bank assistance programme at Aveme-Danyigba in the Kpando District has been handed over to the Ministry of Health. This follows an amicable settlement of differences between a section of the community and the Ministry of Health over the running of the centre alongside a similar one built by the people of nearby Aveme-Peme. The centre, which is one of 32 such centres built with World Bank assistance in the country, is equipped by the Department for International Development (DID). Dr. Frank Nyonator, Volta Regional Director of Health Services who received the keys from Mr. W.K. Dogbe of Markon Limited, the contractors, said the centre is a further testimony of the ministry’s determination to ensure that health facilities are accessible to all. Dr Nyonator said hospitals and health centres in the region would be run on purely expert medical grounds and that the ministry would not allow “local politics” to dictate the way it runs its institutions. He said the new health centre would provide clinical services while the one at Aveme-Peme would provide maternal and child health services to all the communities in the Aveme Traditional Area and its surrounding areas.
