A four-member delegation from the Los Angeles World Airports Authority has held discussions with the management of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in Accra to explore areas of investment and to offer assistance to the Authority. Members of the delegation identified Airport Operations and Management, Security and Information Systems as areas of special interest to them. The Director-General of the GCAA, Wing Commander Andy Mensah, spoke about the excellent performance of the Authority within the existing economic climate and assured the delegation of good prospects in the aviation industry. He noted that Ghana has become the gate-way to the West Africa sub-Region in line with the Government’s Vision 2020 programme and the Airport is playing a leading role in that direction. According to Wing Commander Mensah, 70 million dollars will be required for the execution of the second phase of the Kotoka International AirportRehabilitation Project. This involves, among other things, the expansion of the terminal building, freight terminal and communication systems. Wing Commander Mensah said the Management will be pleased to welcome any external financier to invest in the present congenial atmosphere. The leader of the delegation, Dr.. Warren Valdry, said the members were encouraged by the personal promotional visit to the United States last year by President Rawlings and will endeavour to identify areas of co-operation with their Ghanaian counterparts. The delegation later inspected facilities at the Airport.
