Bole, March 14,GNA – A two day training workshop on conflict transformation and peace building to develop the skills and knowledge of participants in early identification and mitigation of violent conflict situations, has taken place in Bole.
The workshop, was organised by the Ghana Network for Peace Building (GHANEP) in collaboration with the Bole District Assembly and funded by Ibis Ghana, an international non-governmental organisation. It was attended by 30 participants including, chiefs, assembly members, Heads of decentralised departments, youth and women groups, and religious bodies.
It was also aimed at putting peace building at the centre of the District Assembly’s development work.
The participants discussed various peace building and conflict management topics including: “Conflict Paradigm,” “Human Need Theory,” “Spectrum of Conflict Handling and Analysis.”
The National Co-ordinator of GHANEP, Mr. Amadu Ibrahim Zakaria said the participants were expected to be able to identify as well as resolve all conflicts in their localities after the workshop. The Assembly, he said was also expected to mainstream peace building in its development planning programmes.
Mr Zakaria said Bole District had been identified by GHANEP as a good model for peace, for other districts in the Northern Region to emulate. The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Issahaku Basintatte urged the participants to attach seriousness to the workshop to enable them acquire peace building and management skills to promote perpetual peace in the District. He thanked Ibis Ghana and GHANEP for organising the workshop in Bole and advised people in the District to guard against all acts that will promote conflict.
