Workshop on malaria prevention ends at Techiman

Techiman (B/A), June 20, GNA – The Ministry of Health has organised a three-day workshop on the prevention of malaria and tuberculosis for 280 community-based surveillance (CBS) in eight sub-districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The participants were drawn 176 communities in the Techiman, Tanoso, Forikrom, Tuobodom, Aworowa, Nsuta and Buoyem.

The workshop was on the team “Roll Back Malaria And T.B.”. Mr Henry D. Offei-Akoto, Techiman Municipal Director of Health Services said the CBS would be given money for transport to facilitate their monitoring and reporting of epidemic outbreak of diseases in their communities.

Nana Stephen Nketia-Caterpillar, Techiman Municipal T.B. Control Coordinator said TB was preventable and asked participants to refer any patients to the hospital for early treatment. He advised relatives of TB patients to take proper care of them since the disease is curable.

Nana Nketia- Caterpillar urged the participants to conduct house-to-house education on how people in their communities could identify and handle communicable diseases.

He said in order to prevent the spread of TB, patients should cover their mouth with tissues when coughing, sneezing or laughing and also ensure good ventilation when they in indoors. 20 June 05
