Workshop on locally produced rice held

A 10 day skill training workshop on an improved method of processing locally produced rice has been organised for 25 women at Jakarayili, a suburb of Tamale.

The workshop was organised by the Regional Technology Transfer Centre (RTTC) and GRATIS Tamale.

Speaking at the opening session, Mr Peter Adasi, the Regional Director of RTTC said the essence of the training was to increase the women’s earnings and also to cut down rice importation into the country.

He said at the end of the training, the women would be given ?5 million as a seed capital to work as a group. Mr Abdul Mumuni, the gender and development officer of RTTC, disclosed that the technology, which include, par boiling of rice, drying and polishing it whiter, would be extended to other rice growing areas in the region.
