Workshop on HIV/AIDS for students

Suhum (E/R), Nov. 15, GNA – A three-day training workshop on HIV/AIDS peer education for Junior Secondary School (JSS) students in the Dokrochiwa are in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District of the Eastern Region had been held at Dokrochiwa.

Twenty-three participants drawn from Dokrochiwa, Yaw-Larbi, Akorodum, Anakwase, Kwaboanta and Akukrom all communities in the district, attended the workshop, which was organised by the Bisa Awurade club, based in Dokrochiwa.

The chairman of the Club, Mr Winfried Adde stressed the need for intensive education on HIV/AIDS, which he said was spreading among the youth.

He expressed regret that even though most youth knew about the disease, they continued to be sexually promiscuous.

Mrs Monica Adaku, Medical Assistant in-charge of Dokrochiwa Health Centre, who was resource person for the programme, educated the students on the symptoms, causes and prevention of HIV/AIDS.

She reminded them that HIV/AIDs was real and that no known cure had been found to it yet.

Mrs Adaku said the District was one of the highly infected districts in the Region and appealed to the people to change their sexual behaviour to prevent the spread of the disease. 15 Nov 04
