Akosombo, Sept 5, GNA – The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) at the weekend organised a capacity building workshop for members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport at Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
The workshop, which took the form of departmental briefing, was to educate members of the Committee on the operations of the GCAA, the Global Aviation Authority and the National Aviation Sector policy. Addressing the participants, Mr Nii Adumansa-Badoo, Director General of GCAA, said the aviation industry was picking up following the downward trend that characterised its operations after the September 11 terrorists attack in the United States.
He said GCAA had stepped up security checks at the Kotoka International Airport to get rid off potters popularly called “goro boys” and to make it difficult for drug couriers to use the Airport as a transit point.
Mr Adumansa-Badoo said the development of the Airport as the gateway to the sub-region was still on course.
The leader of the Committee, Mr Samuel K Obodai said the workshop had enlightened them about the aviation industry.
