Workers urged not to abuse freedom granted to labour movement.

Saltpond (C/R), May 5, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Mfantseman, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, has asked Ghanaian workers not to abuse the freedom “some workers laid down their lives to achieve for the labour movement”.

Rather they should work hard to justify the freedom granted to the labour movement.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur, who was addressing workers after a four-hour clean-up exercise at Saltpond to mark this year’s May Day, urged workers to make achieving economic stability their priority since that would empower their leaders in advocating for enhanced remuneration. The DCE commended the workers for the clean-up exercise during which they cleared chocked-up gutters and weeded overgrown bushes in the surroundings.

On the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr Quainoo-Arthur advised workers to explain the concept to their relatives and friends to enable them see the need to embrace it.

He advised them to tolerate the views of politicians who would go to them to canvas for their votes but cautioned them to make informed choices.

Mr Adjei Kusi, chairman of the District Council of Labour, paid tribute to those who laid their lives to open an avenue for workers to participate in decision-making at the workplace. He assured the DCE of the support and co-operation in moving the district forward.
