Workers of Intercity Company demonstrate

Accra, Feb. 19, GNA- Workers of the Intercity STC Coaches Limited on Thursday demonstrated and presented a petition to the Speaker of Parliament against the sale of assets of the Bulk Haulage Division by Vanef Consortium Limited.

The workers also questioned why Vanef owned 100 per cent equity shares in the Bulk Haulage Division and its surplus assets and called on the government to restrain them.

Mr Samuel Quarshie, local union chairman of STC who spoke to the addressed, we are not going to allow the disposals of these assets.” They were also dissatisfied why Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) did not bid to acquire STC but they purchased 92 per cent equity share as the majority share holders and Vanef one point five per cent in the Bus Service Division.

The workers therefore called on the government to abrogate the sale and purchase agreement between STC and DIC for lack of transparency.
