Workers of Ayum Forest Products go on demonstration

Workers of Ayum Forest Products (AFP) at Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality on Wednesday demonstrated through the main streets of the town in protest against the delay in the payment of their January salary.

The about 1,500 demonstrators also demanded the immediate dismissal of their General Manager, Mr. Mohammed Arafat, for alleged incompetence that they claimed had caused the delay.

A spokesperson for the workers, who pleaded anonymity, said delays in the payment of their salaries over the years “are worrying the workers who feel cheated and uncertain”, adding that the situation had brought hardships to them and their families.

The workers opposed the manner in which the General Manager has been handling the affairs of the company and that his attitude towards them was not helping output, hence the call on management to sack him to ensure smooth administration.

The Administrative Manager of the Company, Wing Commander Alexander Quansah (rtd), said plans were under way to pay their salaries by February 15th and appealed to them to return to work whilst their other request is considered.
