Workers contributions to the NHIS would be deducted monthly-

Asamoah-Boateng

Drobo (B/A) Nov.7 GNA- Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng Deputy Minister of Information on Wednesday said the two and a half per cent deductions from workers’ Social Security contributions towards the National Health Insurance Scheme would be made on monthly basis. He, however, could not tell for how long the deduction would be made.

He was answering question at a workers’ durbar at Drobo in Jaman district of Brong Ahafo as part of his tour of the region. The Deputy Minister said it is better to live in good health while in employment than to go on pension and spend a lot of money on drugs. He urged workers in the formal sector to exercise restraint and embrace the scheme as a relief for better health delivery. The Deputy Minister lauded some of the districts, which are operating the scheme.

Mr Asamoah Boateng noted that at Berekum, the scheme’s highest assistance to a registered member was nine million cedis from a yearly contribution of 20,000 cedis.

“It is also on record that at Ejisu-Juaben, the scheme paid a bill of 4.5 million cedis at a minimum premium of 20,000 cedis a year”, he said.

He later paid a courtesy call on Beyeeman Bosea Gyinatwi IV, Omanhene of Drobo Traditional Area, at his palace.

The Omanhene urged the Government to carry on with decisions that would help the majority of the citizenry and not to be bothered about unconstructive criticisms, adding “you can never win a battle without preparing to accept risks”.
