Work with your predecessors – Kufuor to NPP Executives

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is asking the newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives to work in concert with their predecessors, and open their doors to all members of the party to make them feel welcome.

A statement signed by the spokesperson to the ex-President, Frank Agyekum, urged the new executives to further strengthen unity within the party and work hard for victory in 2016.

Mr Paul Afoko, was elected as the National Chairman. He polled 2,031 votes to beat Mr Stephen Ntim, his closest rival who polled 1,503 votes, Mr Fred Oware polled 1,135 votes, while the former chairman, Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey got only 66 votes in the keenly contested election.

Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong also defeated the incumbent General Secretary of the party, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, to become the new General Secretary. He polled 2,529 votes, while Mr Afriyie got 1,990 votes.

The other contestants for the slot, Mr Yaw Buaben Asamoah and Captain Nkrabea Effah Darteh, polled 181 and 46 votes respectively.

Other elected executives are Mr Freddie Blay, First National Vice-Chairperson, Mr Sammy Crabbe, Second National Vice-Chairperson and Mr Frederick Antoh, Third National Vice-Chairperson.

The rest are Mr John Boadu, National Organizer, Mr Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organizer, Madam Otiko Djaba who retained her position as National Women’s Organizer, Mr Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah, Treasurer, and Mr Kamal Deen Abdulai, National Nassara Co-ordinator.

He urged the new executives to quickly put aside the euphoria of their triumph, and adopt measures that will ensure victory in the next elections.

The Former President congratulated the party for the successful run of the elections, which has been acclaimed as ‘free and fair,’ adding: “it has enhanced the party’s democratic credentials.”

“Former President Kufuor who for the past two weeks has been on speaking engagements in Europe and the United States, returns home Monday evening after meetings at the UN, World Bank, the European Union Headquarters and University of Oxford,” the statement concluded.
