Work to begin on 2.9 billion cedis girls’ dormitory

Tamale, Nov.11, GNA – Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister on Friday cut the sod for work to begin on a 2.9 billion cedis two-storey girls’ dormitory for Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) in Tamale.

The dormitory being constructed under the GETFUND would accommodate 200 girls furnished with beds and mattresses. Addressing the staff and students of the school, Alhaji Idris observed that being an old educational institution NOBISCO lacked development in terms of infrastructure.

He said the girls in particular, were housed in a dilapidated structure hence the intervention by GETFUND to provide them decent accommodation.

Alhaji Idris noted that provision of the dormitory was the “beginning of better things to come” and urged the students to study hard and avoid social vices that could destroy their future. He told the staff and students to be law abiding, respect their tutors and channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters rather than resorting to strike action.

Alhaji Idris asked the contractor to execute the project within specification and on schedule.

Mr Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) said the assembly had already constructed a place of convenience for the school and negotiating for funds to build a bungalow for the headmaster. He observed that the school’s land had been encroached upon and to prevent further encroachment, the assembly would provide about a 1,000 mango seedlings to be planted around the compound. Mr Chikpa Demuyakor, Northern Regional Director of Education commended Alhaji Idris for his commitment to promote education in the region.

Alhaji Idris, later cut the sod for work to begin on a two-storey girls’ dormitory for Islamic Secondary School in Tamale. The project expected to be completed within nine months would accommodate about 500 girls.
