Work on wharf at Winneba to begin in March

Winneba (C/R), Jan. 11, GNA – Construction work on a multi-million Ghana cedi fishing harbour at Winneba is to begin in March this year, to promote commercial fishing activities in the newly created Effutu municipality and to provide adequate employment for the jobless youth in the area.

Mr Samuel Kofi Owusu-Agyei, Minister for Public Sector Reform and MP for Effutu, announced this at Winneba when he feted about 2,000 NPP faithful at an end-of-year party at Winneba.

Mr Owusu-Agyei, who has declared his intention to seek re-election for the Effutu parliamentary seat in December, told his teeming supporters that the project, which would give Winneba a modern landing beach befitting its municipal status, was in fulfilment of the NPP government’s promise to the fishermen, fishmongers and the entire Effutu community. He said the project would also seek to protect fishing boats that were destroyed at the beaches by strong winds annually due to undue exposure.

The NPP he said was a problem solving party, adding that what the government required from Ghanaians was a long-lasting patience to enable it to resolve teething challenges confronting the nation systematically. Mr Owusu-Agyei said past governments had given several promises to the people in connection with the wharf project, but none of such promises had been fulfilled.

He made it clear that the project was not meant to benefit party members alone, but rather designed to offer sustained job openings to all Ghanaians.

Mr Owusu-Agyei appealed to people to put all their political and other differences aside and co-operate with the government to ensure the success of the project. ********
