Work hard to merit reward, teachers told

Kumasi, Feb.18, GNA – Mrs Irene Duncan Adanusa, General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has urged teachers to work tirelessly to merit any reward they might seek from the government. They must demonstrate to the communities in which they worked that they were the pivot of national development, she stressed. This was contained in an address read on her behalf at the 3rd quadrennial delegates’ conference of the Kumasi Metro GNAT, at Kumasi, on Tuesday.

Mrs Adanusa said, “As teachers we should discharge our duties both in the classroom and the community to make members in the community appreciate our efforts and support any cause to address our grievances concerning our conditions of service.” Mr Paul Osei-Mensah, former General Secretary of GNAT, stressed the need for the Government and the GNAT to provide lifelong education and training opportunities for teachers to enable them to discharge their duties efficiently. He called on teachers to device effective strategies that would help children develop their hidden talents and appreciate the need for cooperation in society.

Mr Edmond Yaw Kyei, Deputy Metro Director of Education in-charge of Finance, advised members of the association to strengthen their unity in order to help them mobilize to promote their interest. The occasion was also used to honour retired and active members of the association who had contributed immensely to its growth and development. Mr Augustine Kwame Mensah, Regional GNAT chairman, Mr Paul Osei-Mensah, Member of GNAT Council, Madam Juliana Osei, Metro GNAT treasurer and Mr Lord Okyere were presented with certificates and gifts.
