Work begins on Yorkutikpo-Mafi feeder road

Work has begun on the 11 kilometre Yorkutikpo-Mafi Avedo feeder road, near Adidome in the Central Tongu District.

This is in a swift response to a demonstration organised by the people of the area a fortnight ago, over the bad state of the road which they said was affecting business in the popular Avedor Market.

The road is an important link between Central Tongu and the Akatsi South districts, and serves as an important trade route for businesses between Ghana and Togo.

The Avedo Market, supplies cassava dough to many parts of the country and nearby Togo.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Mary Agbenyenu, who led The Ghanaian Times on an inspecting tour of the road yesterday, gave the assurance that the GHc22,000 project, funded by the assembly, would be completed before the end of this month.

“We rented the equipment for the job from organisations and people who have them, and will pay them as soon they execute the task, without giving the whole project on contract to one person”, she said.

She said the road was very crucial because it led to a vibrant market which raised high revenues for the assembly and also offered jobs to many people in the area.

The DCE expressed gratitude to the chiefs and elders of Mafi-Tove, for donating a gravel pit to the assembly in aid of the road project, saying that had helped to hasten the project.

As at yesterday, the stretch had been cleared and workers were set to start the gravelling process.
