Work begins on Tamale ultra-modern market complex

Tamale, Nov. 30, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has cut the sod for commencement of work on an ultra-modern market complex, christened “the Jubilee Market”, at Kukuo in the Tamale Metropolis. On completion, it would have a total of 426 stores, 200 open sheds, a cr=E8che, Bank, offices, Information Technology (IT) Centre, fire hydrants, a mosque, sanitary facilities and a car park.

It is an important addition to the several landmark facilities provided by the Government within the last eight years at a total cost of about 350 million dollars.

Chinese Contractors, China State Hu Long Construction, have been awarded the job.

President Kufuor said it was a demonstration of the Government’s commitment towards transforming Tamale into a major commercial centre in the economy of the country. He said his administration has always meant well for people in that part of Ghana and that a solid foundation to enhance the quality of life had been laid.

Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister, urged the people to retain the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power in the December 7 poll, to sustain the level of development the region was enjoying.

President Kufuor earlier inaugurated the new structures of the Tamale Girls High School at Wamale.

He encouraged the school to aim at becoming one of the top class all-female institutions in the country and accept the challenge to be studious and disciplined.

The structures built on a 70-acre land, included classroom blocks, staff bungalows, dormitories, an administration block and an assembly hall.

It was financed through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). The school, established in 1998, used to be housed at the Tamale Workers Canteen.

President Kufuor congratulated them for the high academic performance at the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations. President Kufuor gave the assurance that the school would be connected with water and equipped with an Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, a modern library and science laboratories.
