Agona Swedru, Aug 02, GNA – Mr J. G. Amamu, a former Member of Parliament for Swedru, Nyakrom and Nkum in the Nkrumah regime, has cut a sod for work to begin on a 30-bed male ward at the cost of 85,000 dollars for Agona Swedru Government Hospital.
The Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) is financing the project that would be completed in December.
Mr Amamu said about three years ago the former Japan Ambassador in Ghana, Mrs Razuko Asai, joined the chiefs and the people of Agona Swedru to celebrate the Akwambo Festival at which an appeal was made for financial assistance for the construction of the ward. Mr Amamu said he was looking for 12,000 dollars for the construction of mortuary and called on the citizens of Agona, both at home and abroad, to contribute.
He called for cooperation between the chiefs and the management of the hospital to ensure smooth operation at the hospital. Nana Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene, appealed to the district assembly and the government to assist the hospital to build a mortuary. He urged the residents of Agona Swedru and its environs to patronize the hospital instead of travelling outside the district to seek medical attention.
