Work has commenced on a 28km road which connects the Akatsi North and South districts of the Volta region.
The project, being executed by GHACOS construction firm under the Department of Feeder Roads, is expected to be ready in 6 months’ time.
The road which will receive bituminous surfacing for the first time, when completed, will ease the carting of food stuffs from the many farming communities along the stretch to market centers at Ave-Dakpa and Akatsi, respectively.
James Gunu, District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, told newsmen that the project which is funded solely by the Government of Ghana, will bring a of lot relieve to residents, as it cuts down travel time between the two sister-districts.
“This road has never been tarred in its history, but the government of President Mahama has given it for tarring. This has enormous social-economic benefits for the people of this area. The over 40 farming communities along the road, can now have easy access to market their produce,” he posited.
In a related development, the Akatsi North DCE has inaugurated some school projects and a CHPS compound in some communities in the district.
The projects include a 3-unit classroom block each in the Nudowukope and Kpegbadza communities, while the CHPS compound is located in the Kpohe community.
An educational charity organization, Pencils of Promise, funded the classroom block at Kpegbadza, while the other two projects were financed from the district assembly coffers.
Inaugurating the projects, Mr. Gunu expressed optimism that the new facilities will enhance the quality of education and healthcare delivery in the beneficiary communities, respectively.
