Words of Politicians: Spio-Garbrah joins his ‘Team B’

The difference between a politician and a typical serial caller is that whatever statement the politician makes will be used against him in the future, unlike the serial caller.

The recently-nominated Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah, has once described the then Vice-President John Dramani Mahama and ministers appointed by the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills as “Team B”.

He stated at the time that, people like him who were “Team A” have been kept out of government.

When the good Lord called President Mills, then Vice-President John Dramani Mahama was sworn in to continue the unexpired term of the late Professor J.E.A. Mills as President and Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces as required by the Constitution of Ghana.

Spio-Garbrah indicated at the time that “I wrote in the relevant section that… large segments of the public have been asking on radio stations why the government may have chosen to field SOME players from its Team ‘B’ when many Team ‘A’ players are available and ready to play.

So first of all, I was quoting a comment I heard made by some people on radio discussion programmes”.

In the 2012 elections, President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the elections.

As per the theory of Spio-Garbrah, Mills’ “Team B” had won the elections and he (Spio-Garbrah) “Team ‘A” Player was totally out after President John Dramani Mahama made his first ministerial appointment.

With his recent nomination as Trade and Industry Minister, has Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah descended from his “Team ‘A’” rating to the ground he once described as ”Team ‘B’”?

Will Spio-Garbrah publicly apologise to President Mahama, who was then the deputy “Team ‘B’” captain under the late President Mills’ administration, ministers appointed by the late president to work with him for referring to them as “Team ‘B’” players; and to the late J.E.A. Mills himself? Or will Spio-Garbrah decline the nomination to serve under graduated deputy “Team ‘B’” captain, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama?

The Informer on this thought-provoking note, rests our case and awaits a response from Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah.
