Wood workers undergo ICT training at Ejisu-Juaben

A two-day Information Communication Technology (ICT) training workshop to assist wood workers has opened at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

Sixty members of the Ghana Timber Millers Organization (GTMO), Ghana Timber Association (GTA) and the Furniture and Wood Workers of Ghana (FAWAG), drawn from Ashanti, Western, Eastern and Brong-Ahafo Regions are attending the workshop.

It is being organized jointly by the Kumasi Wood Cluster (KWC) and the Wood Industries Training Centre (WITC) with funding from the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).

Mrs Esi Banful, General Manager of the KWC, said the goal of the workshop is to help keep the workers abreast with the current trends in the wood industry.

She said it would help to enhance information processing and thereby increase productivity. Mrs Banful said the expectation is that the ICT training would significantly contribute towards helping small and medium-sized timber companies to show compliance with the wood tracking system meant to ensure that they deal only in legal timber.

Mr Kwasi Lumor, WITC’s Head of Training, spoke of the need to constantly equip wood workers with modern technology to enable them to add value to their products.
