Wontumi discontinues application to review bail conditions

The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party(NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiko, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has withdrawn a motion seeking a review of his bail conditions.

The motion was filed at the High Court in Accra on 30 May 2025, seeking that the court revise the bail terms, citing grounds outlined in an accompanying affidavit.

A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, 3 June.

However, on Monday, June 2, lawyer and NPP Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako, filed a separate application seeking to halt the process ahead of the scheduled hearing.

Some NPP members had challenged the GH¢50 million bail imposed on Chairman Wontumi by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), calling it excessive and a deliberate attempt to prevent is release.

Subsequently, former Asante Akyem North MP and lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi confirmed that all the necessary documentation for the two justified sureties has now been completed.

The lawyer explained that the assistance was made possible through former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.
