Madam Comfort Duagbor, a caterer of local food, popularly known as “Enyonam” has urged her fellow women to be focused and determine in their businesses to change their fortunes in life.
She said it did not matter how small one’s business was, what was most important was showing the commitment to ensure that at the end of the day the business succeeded.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), she said, she started her trade as a “tea seller” four years ago at the former Ho-Hohoe lorry station at Koforidua on a small table.
Madam Duagbor said through the selling of tea, she raised money and added oats and porridge.
She said at that time, there was a neighbour who was selling fried yams by her side who latter stopped the business.
Ms Duagbor said some of the customers started requesting for fried yams and so she decided to meet their demand and started selling the fried yams and later added cooked rice with stew. Based upon the request of some customers, she introduced other dishes like plantain and yam with kontomire or cabbage stew and cocoyam and garden eggs stew.
She said though she does not sell the tea any more, it was through that, that she was able to raise capital for her present business, which has sustained her and helped her to support her former husband to raise their two children, one in the Senior High School and the other at the basic school.
Madam Duagbor explained that the work has been challenging, as she wakes up as early as 0330 hrs and go back home at about 1900hrs and has to work for six days in a week.
She indicated that she has now acquire a container to store her working tools, fixed an open tent where her customers sit to enjoy their meals and employed two ladies who assist her with her activities.
