Women urged to work hard

Mrs. Magdalene Kanae, head of the gender desk at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), has appealed to women seeking political office to resort to perseverance, hard work and resilience.

She said women had all that it takes to compete with men in the political administration of the country and what some women lacked was courage, fortitude and hard work to galvanize support to win votes during elections.

Mrs. Kanae said this in Tamale on Saturday at a two-day capacity enhancement training workshop for aspiring female Unit Committee and Assembly Members drawn from the Northern, Upper East and the Upper West regions.

The Foundation for Security Development in Africa (FOSDA) organized the workshop with funding from the Comic Relief, an NGO.

The workshop was on the theme: “Building Capable, Resourceful women for National Development”, which was meant to educate the women on the Ghana’s decentralization process and how to create and build a winsome team during elections.

Mrs. Kanae said women were intelligent, but some of them lacked the boldness to be in the front line politics and urged them to work hard to break the men dominance in politics. Madam Afi Yakubu, Executive Director of FOSDA, said women seeking political office were facing some challenges such as family problems, which affected their full participation in the local level governance in the country.
