Abandze, (C/R), June 21, GNA – The Mfantseman Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic education (NCCE), Ms. Margaret Mary Sackey, has called on Ghanaian women to play an advocacy in ensuring peace during the upcoming general elections. Ms. Sackey urged them to be the advocates of peace since women and children suffered most in times of conflict. Addressing a public forum at Abandze in the Central Region as part of the celebration of National Constitution Week in the municipality, the NCCE District urged women to impress upon their husbands and children to conduct their political activities in a manner that would sustain the peace the nation was enjoying. She appealed to Ghanaians not to regard their political opponents as enemies since the constitution did not encourage a one party state.
“The multi-party democracy Ghana is practicing calls for formation of more political parties with people with divers views, she said and noted that people who treat their opponents as enemies are rather enemies of multi-party democracy. Ms. Sackey advised women to take interest in politics and offer themselves for election to some key positions. She advised the youth, who had attained the age of 18 years but had not registered to do so when the voters register was opened. The NCCE District expressed concern about polarization of the nation on party lines and cautioned against ethnicity which some politicians were introducing into the nation’s body politity. “To foster national unity, we need not to identify ourselves on ethnic, religious or political lines,” she stressed.
