Accra, Aug. 19, GNA – Women in unionism has been urged to take up challenging roles in their various unions.
Mr. Richard Nii-Aryerttey, Industrial Relations Officer of the Public Service Workers Union ( PSWU of TUC ) said this in Accra, during the just ended Greater Accra Regional Women’s Committee of the Trade Union Congress, Ghana delegates conference He said women’s participation in trade union activities over the years had always been relegated to the background, and urged them to get more involved in mainstream unionism.
Mr Nii-Aryerttey also took the participants through trade unionism and the rights of women. Mr James Amissah, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of PSWU said lack of funds has been an obstacle hindering trade union activities in the region. New officers were elected into office with Sister Agnes Sackitey of Tema Development Co-orperation retaining her position as chairperson. Others are Sistyer Rose Haruna of NCCE, Amasaman took the vice chairperson position, whiles Emma Quansah of the National Sports Council was elected secretary. 19 Aug. 05
