Ms Beatrice Amui, National President of the Women Missionary Union (WMU) of the Ghana Baptist Convention, has appealed to Christian women to be actively involved in evangelization to win more souls for Christ.
She said women by their nature, could convince more people to change their lifestyles, and commit themselves towards working to seek the Kingdom of God.
Ms Amui made the appeal in Tamale at the weekend during a special thanks-giving service for Deaconess Mrs Samata Imoro of the Kanvili Baptist Church in Tamale, who had been elected as the National Vice President of WMU.
The service became necessary because this was the first time someone from the Northern Sector of the Baptist Church had been elected to occupy such a position in the history of the Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC).
Ms Amui commended Deaconess Mrs Samata Imoro for her elevation to the position, and advised her to work hard to help empower more women to justify the confidence reposed in her.
She stressed the need for women in the church to work towards ensuring the growth of the local churches so that pastors manning those churches enjoyed their work.
Deaconess Mrs Imoro, National Vice President-elect of WMU, appealed for support from both women and men in the church, to enable her succeed.
She gave the assurance to work to justify the confidence reposed in her.
She said she would work in collaboration with all in the church to bring hope to women, and that women empowerment was top on her agenda to win more souls for Christ.
She thanked members of the church for the incessant prayers during the election period, and appealed to them to continue to offer more prayers to ensure that she did not disappoint women in the church, especially those in the northern sector.
Reverend Mrs Sanatu Nantogmah, former Country Director of the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) who chaired the function, stressed the need for dedication and commitment to the work of God to seek the Kingdom of God.
She described Deaconess Samata’s ascension to the high office as a challenge for her to work harder than before, saying, “You are now seen as the Mother of all. This is the time you need more prayers than before because you are now seen as a role module, and you need to continue to live righteous life worth emulating”.
She advised other women in the church to aspire towards occupying positions not only in the church, but wherever they found themselves as means of contributing their quota towards nation-building.
