Woman traveller dies at Aflao

Aflao, March 15, GNA – A woman, believed to be returning from a long sojourn in a neighbouring country, died on arrival at Aflao last Tuesday.

A Togolese hospital attendance card found in her bag and a tattoo on her arm bore the name Rose Dzigbordi Teye, 39.

Officials of the Aflao branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) said the deceased was too frail to mention her hometown when she was questioned.

Mr Emmanuel Pomary, Secretary of the Local GPRTU, told the Ghana News Agency that the deceased arrived from Lome late at night last Monday and passed the night at the station with other stranded travellers.

He said she developed diarrhoea the next morning and was led to the public place of convenience where some women assisted her. Mr Pomary said those who initially helped her left her on the compound of the public toilet until Tuesday morning. He said when the message reached the offices of the GPRTU, they ordered food for her but before it arrived she had died and a report was made to the police. A source close to the Aflao Police confirmed the story and said the body had been deposited at the Keta Government Hospital.
