A woman believed to be in her 30’s, Beatrice Nyarko is in police grips for poisoning her own two-year-old son to pave way for her to marry her boy friend.
The accused who stays at Kronum, a suburb of Kumasi was yesterday arrested by the police along with her mother (the deceased’s grandmother).
According to eyewitness, Beatrice who has been promised marriage by her boyfriend believed the son was a threat to her marriage, hence the decision to kill him.
The accused woman is said to have fed her child boiled egg poisoned with weedicide, and later locked him up in the room and left.
When she realized that her son was dead after returning to the house, she attempted committing suicide but was rescued by some neighbours who rushed her to a hospital in the area for treatment and later reported the case to the police who came to arrest her.
Police have started investigations into the matter.
