Woman invokes ‘antoa’ as EC officers contest child’s age

A mother of a first time voter, who was challenged for being a minor, caused a stir Thursday at the Patase Electoral Area in the Nhyieso constituency of the Ashanti region when she threatened to invoke the dreaded Ashanti deity, ‘Antoa Nyamaa’ on EC officers and a polling agent of the ruling National Democratic Congress .

Esther Annor, was angry because his son, Collins Darkwa, had been challenged by an NDC polling agent for being a minor even though his birth certificate confirmed that he was indeed 18 years.

Even though, Darkwa was made to go through the entire registration, he was not given the card and was asked to come back after the registration exercise. This infuriated the woman, who later brought some family members to the polling station to state their case .

She brought along some eggs and threatened to invoke antoa on the officers if they refuse to issue her child with the ID card.

Esther Annor and her entourage were still at the polling station as at press time.
