Woman in trouble for stealing

Woman, who allegedly abused the compassion of her benefactor, by stealing from her shop, has found herself in trouble with the law.

Agnes Antwi, 34, appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court charged with the theft of cosmetics valued at Ghc5,000.

She pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mrs. Afua Adu-Amankwaa granted her a Ghc 5,000 bail with a surety. She was additionally ordered to report to the police on every Tuesday. She would make her next court appearance on October 23.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court that the accused and Nana Akua Afriyie, a businesswoman, belong to the same church.

Agnes, who was going through financial troubles and at a point even contemplated hurting herself, approached the complainant for help, and touched by her situation, she engaged her as a sales girl.

The prosecution said this was in July, this year, and that the keys to shop were given to the accused as Nana Afriyie was often away.

The theft was uncovered during stock-taking by the complainant and some of the stolen items were retrieved by the police after her arrest.
