Woman fined 500,000 cedis for causing harm

Tema, Dec. 20, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court ‘A’, has imposed a fine of 500,000 cedis on a female secretary at Ashaiman in the Tema Municipality, for inflicting a wound on a 12 year old minor for washing his feet at a stand pipe.

Vivian Badu, pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing unlawful harm and will be gaoled for three months in default. The Court ordered that 400,000 cedis of the fine should be paid to the complainant.

The prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta, told the Court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu, that at 1800 hours on December 31, 2003, the complainant was washing his feet when the accused ordered him to stop and he obliged.

She said surprisingly, the accused started manhandling the boy leading to a struggle between them and in the process Badu picked an object and struck the face of the complainant resulting in a deep cut under his right eye.

Chief Inspector Assunta said a report was made to the Ashaiman Police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
