Akyem Swedru (E/R), Jan 17, GNA- The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Wednesday convicted a 25-year-old woman, Faustina Arthur, to a fine of one million cedis or in default would go to prison for six months for dishonestly receiving a pig valued at 1.4 million cedis.

Kwabena Wuhuruse, a 38-year-old man charged with Faustina pleaded not guilty and was remanded into police custody to reappear on January 22.

Two others Kwabena Willie and one Forster connected with the case were on the run and the police had mounted an intensive search for their arrest.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the complainant a businessman who also rears pigs, reside at Akyem Aboabo in the Birim South District.

He said on December 10 last year at about 0700 hours the complainant visited his pig farm and detected that one of the pigs valued at 1.4 million cedis had been stolen. The complainant, he said, started his own enquiries and investigations and had information that Wuhuruse and the two suspects now at large stole the animal and sold it to Faustina at Akyem Oda Old Town for 400,000 cedis.

The prosecutor said complainant proceeded to Faustina’s house and found the pig dead and lodged a complaint with the police. He said Faustina later led the police to Wuhuruse house and was arrested but the two others managed to escape.
