Accra, March 2, GNA – A 51-year-old woman who has been charged with defrauding a number of Queenmothers was on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of 300 million cedis to be justified by two sureties by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court also ordered Nana Yaa Bodom, Director of the Great African Travel and Tours to deposit her passports with the court registry.
The Prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Bennet Sarfo had prayed the court to seize the two foreign passports belonging to Bodom to prevent her from escaping since she had no permanent abode in Ghana. But Counsel for Bodom, Mr Johnny Adaku argued that Ghanaians would stand as surety for the accused person and make sure that her client reported to court.
“We don’t have any problem depositing the passports with the Police,” he said, explaining that Bodom was a genuine tour operator and not a fraudster.
Bodom is standing trial for allegedly defrauding 25 Queenmothers and 64 others in the sum of 3,000 dollars each with the promise of sending them to Britain to meet the Queen of England. Bodom whose plea was not taken has been charged for defrauding by false pretence.
The case has been adjourned to March 16.
