Woman arrested for beating daughter

A woman at Drobonso, the capital of Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region has been caged for mercilessly beating her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Madam Mavis Ampongsah has been remanded in prison custody for one week by a Circuit Court at Kumawu on charges of child abuse and child molestation, after she admitted to beating the innocent girl.

She would reappear in court on Wednesday to face additional charges of death threats on one Obeng Agyeman, a staff of Social Welfare, stationed at Drobonso.

Fuseini Donkoh, the DCE of Sekyere Afram Plains, who narrated the story to DAILY GUIDE, said the suspect pulled a sharp machete on the Social Welfare staff in order to force him to give back her child on Monday afternoon.

According to him, Madam Ampongsah was mercilessly beating the girl on Monday morning so some teachers that saw her weird action reported the matter to the social welfare staff.

Mr. Obeng then picked the child to his office ostensibly to save her from further beatings, but Madam Ampongsah got peeved over his action.

Hon. Donkoh said an angry Madam Ampongsah proceeded to the Social Welfare office at Drobonso, wielding a machete, to forcibly take her daughter from Mr. Obeng who looked frightened by the lady’s actions.

The suspect, whilst at the Social Welfare Office, reportedly threatened to injure Mr. Obeng with the machete, if he refused to hand over her daughter.

The DCE said he ordered the police at Kumawu to arrest Madam Ampongsah when the Coordinating Director of the Assembly reported the incident to him, adding that reports in town indicated that the suspect usually abused her daughter.

According to Hon. Donkoh, Madam Ampongsah openly admitted to beating the child in court and the judge remanded her into prison for one-week to reappear to face additional charges of death threats on a social welfare staff.

He said the suspect became incensed over the judge’s decision to remand her so she started uttering ‘filthy’ words in court, whilst she was being taken away by the police.
