Woman, 76, killed in accident

A 76-year-old woman on Thursday met her untimely death in an accident on the Choggu road in Tamale, Northern region.

The deceased, identified as Fati Zeinab according to witnesses died in the said accident involving a BMW vehicle with registration number GR-8711-15 whilst trying to cross the road.

Eyewitnesses added that the terrible incident occurred at ‘Waterworks’ on the Choggu road in Tamale Thursday at about 1pm.

The owner of the vehicle has been identified as Hajia Zeinab Shaibu, mother of NDC Parliamentary candidate for Tamale North constituency and ace broadcaster,
Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini.

An eyewitness, known as Mr. B.A told Starr News that Hajia Zeinab who was still learning how to drive lost control at a curve she was to initiate and run into metal containers, crushing three motorbikes before knocking down the woman.

The woman was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where she died from Hemorrhagic shock according to the doctor.

According to B.A, Hajia Zeinab immediately fled the scene leaving behind a little boy who divulged identity of the driver to the angry crowd.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirming the incident said Hajia Zeinab also suffered “shock” after the incident and is currently being treated at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

ASP Tetteh added that police has commenced investigation even though they are unable to take an official statement from Suhuyini’s mother due to her state.

The vehicle has since been towed to the regional police headquarters, however, the deceased is also expected to be buried in line with the Islamic culture.

Meanwhile, the family of the dead has been meeting over the matter.
