The Western North Regional Minister together with the Regional Health Director has embarked on sensitization education on the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) vaccination at some schools in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality against Cervical cancer.
During their visit to Sefwi Wiawso cluster of schools yesterday, the regional director of health services, Dr. Paulina Claura Appiah explained that the objective of the HPV vaccination is to prevent cervical cancer, one of the topmost and second causes of cancers in women.
She said the Papiloma is a very dangerous virus which leads to cervical cancer and this is manageable in the early stages between the ages of 9 to 14 years through the HPV vaccine.
She entreated the students to encourage their colleagues to get involved in the HPV vaccination campaign to end cervical cancer in the region.
The Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum also highlighted the implications and effects of cervical cancer and how important it is to get vaccinated.
