Accra, June 15, GNA – A Prosecution Witness (PW) in the case involving six Policemen and five others charged for robbing a Ghanaian businessman of 53,000 dollars and other personal belongings at a Dzorwulu Hotel, on Monday denied claims by the defence. He refuted allegations that the phone numbers on the itemized bills produced by prosecution did not match that of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Kwapong. Detective Sergeant Edward Odame said the itemized bills brought from the MTN showed periods of conversations between DSP Kwapong and one Jeffrey aka “K” who is now at large.
He said from the exhibits it was clear that it was Jeffrey who was making most of the calls to DSP Kwapong. This came up during cross examination by Mr Ellis Owusu Fordjour, Counsel for DSP Kwapong at the ongoing trial in Accra. Sergeant Odame also tended in evidence to the court the bills which involved conversations between DSP Kwapong and Jeffrey and others. The accused persons are DSP Patrick Kwapong, Chief Inspector Thomas Adu, Sergeant John Adjapong, Corporal Lawrence Dennis Quansah, Lance Corporal (L/C) Karim Muntari and Constable Benjamin Blejumah. The rest are Aams Amanor, Kwasi Tawiah, Peter Kwame Gyasi aka Kwame Tawiah and Bismark Ampofo.
They are being held on charges of conspiracy. Apart from DSP Kwapong, the rest are facing additional charge of robbery. They have all pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been remanded into Police custody. Sergeant Odame also confirmed that it was DSP Kwapong who instructed Chief Inspector Adu to go and arrest the complainant, Kweku Duah because he was dealing in gold without authorization. Case adjourned to June 11 this year.
