Wise Water Foundation calls on Methodist Presiding Bishop

A 13-member delegation from the Wise Water Foundation, a non-profit organization, has paid a courtesy call on the Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana.

The delegation led by Mr Emmanuel Amarquaye, Executive Chairman of the Foundation, included teachers and students of the Osu Salem Junior High School in Accra.

The objective of the visit was to inform and seek the support of the Presiding Bishop and the Methodist Church on the health education the foundation is running about Cholera and Ebola in some schools in Accra.

Mr Amarquaye said the Foundation had been monitoring events and that the focus on the cholera and ebola had been diverted to the power crises facing the country.

He said in view of that the Foundation approached the Ghana Health Service (GHS) with a proposal for funding to increase education in the various schools in the country.

Most Rev Prof Asante said the involvement of children in health education was laudable.

He said the littering and the pollution of our water bodies such as the Korle Lagoon was unacceptable and this could be prevented by protecting the water bodies and by putting in place measures to prevent indiscriminate disposal of waste.

Most Rev Prof Asante said the outbreak of cholera was avoidable through maintaining a clean and hygienic environment and children could educate people on personal hygiene.

Most Rev Prof Asante presented 1,000 copies of Cholera and Ebola Tips to the Headmistress of the School, Madam Abigail Aquah, meant for hanging in offices, classrooms and for distribution.
