Winner needs God’s Armour

Akropong Akuapem, Sept. 9, GNA – The Presbyterian Church on Sunday called on political parties in the December 7 polls to put on the “Armour of God” to be able to overcome conflicts and challenges that would confront them physically and spiritually.

It said the theme the General Assembly of the church chose for this year was “Put on the Armour of God” (Ephesians Chapter 6 verse 10-20). This theme coincides with the political activities that the country would be launched into this year with the aim of choosing a leader out of many competitors who claimed to love the nation and were concerned about peace and unity.

The Reverend George Opare, District Minister of Akropong Christ Presbyterian Church, delivered a sermon, which Mr. John Dramani Mahama, running mate of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer, National Democratic Party (NDC) attended upon invitation. Rev. Opare said political leaders should, as much as possible use the Amour of God to overcome the challenges they would face. He said the Armour stood for maturity in the struggle to power, standing up for the truth and the show of righteousness so as to contend with other forces (evil spirits) that ruled the world as well. He said all the political parties in their campaigns were sure that they would win the election adding; “yet it is only one of them that will emerge victorious”.

“The one that would use God’s armour would emerge victorious in the election and has to constantly continue to use the armour to defend its ruler ship. Mr. Mahama said the church remained the conscience of the nation and it should continue to fight against crime, injustice and ethnocentrism. He said the breakdown in traditional values and the indiscipline in the society could be curbed if churches would intensify their pastoral duties. Mr. Mahama said “God’s will should prevail in the nation’s attempt in choosing its next leader.”
