Winneba (C/R) April 24, GNA-The Winneba Municipal Police Command has expressed concern about the increasing number of false alarms being raised by the public to the police that is affecting the provision of security in the area. The Winneba Municipal Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jordan Quaye, who expressed the concern in a press statement issued in Winneba on Monday, therefore appealed to the public to desisted from such acts because they undermined the operations of the police.
According to the statement, on April 19 this, the Police Commander received a call on his personal mobile phone that some armed robbers have attacked a passenger vehicle on Winneba-Accra road at mid-night. Mr. Quaye said the police quickly organised themselves and rushed to the spot as directed the by caller within a few minutes but could not see anything or find any sign of armed robbery. He said in some cases the police received calls of attack by armed robbers, accidents and outbreak of fire in some houses at night, which in all cases were found not to be true.
The Police Commander therefore warned: “it is a waste of state resources and risk of danger to lives of policemen and that anyone found to have caused unnecessary panic by raising false alarms would be dealt with by law.” Mr. Quaye said the police welcomed and encouraged, the idea of calling in the police during emergencies for police assistance, but would not entertain false alarms. He therefore appealed for public education on social, legal, psychological and economic implications of sending false alarms.
