Winneba Police arrest two suspected armed robbers

Winneba (C/R) Aug. 1, GNA- Two suspected armed robbers who attacked a night watchman at a house at the Winneba junction on Thursday night were arrested at a place on the Winneba-Accra road. The police also impounded a taxi used by the robbers. John Patrick Wellet, a Liberian and Joshua Adomako, the driver of the taxi, were arrested.

The Winneba District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nicholas Gasu, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Winneba on Sunday that the 64-year-old watchman, Ali Grushie, who was rushed to the Winneba government hospital unconscious with multiple cutlass wounds, was responding to treating.

ASP Gasu said at about 2315 hours last Thursday, the Police had a telephone call that some armed robbers had attacked the watchman at a house near the Winneba Junction so the Police was immediately dispatched to save the situation. He said when the police arrived at the scene they saw Grushie unconscious with multiple cutlass wounds and while they were searching for the robbers one of them suddenly emerged from the opposite side of road and attacked one of the police personnel in attempt to inflict cutlass wound on him but was gunned down by the police.

ASP Gasu said not quite long, a Ford taxi, which was some few meters to the scene of the incidence, with two persons on board were arrested.

The Police commander said the robbers could not undertake their operation because of the presence of the police. He said the two persons had been placed in police custody pending further investigation.
