Winneba, Jan 28, GNA – Moslems in Winneba on Friday expressed their full support for the government’s move to establish a permanent Hajj Committee for the country. According to them, these would not only help correct mistakes committed by previous Hajj Committees but also afford district and regional Hajj groups to make ample preparations towards prospective Moslems who would want to take undertake the pilgrimage in future. Alhaji Sulemana Salaga Chief of Winneba Moslem community, was addressing about two hundred Moslems at the mosque in Winneba on Friday to commemorate the annual Edil-ada festival.
He said Moslems in the area shared the sentiment of their brothers and sisters currently in Saudi Arabia on Hajj pilgrimage for the hardships they have encountered within the past two weeks, and hoped efforts would be made to fulfil the promise made by the Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama in respect of the establishment of a permanent Hajj committee for the country.
The congregation said prayers for peace, stability, unity and progress of the nation as well as good health for the President, his Vice, Parliamentarians and Ministers of State to ensure the maintenance of democratic governance and the rule of law in the country. Earlier, Mr. Kofi Taylor, the Assemblyman for Abasaraba/Zongo electoral area had presented a number of supportive praying items to the Moslem community in Winneba and promised to team up with them to develop the area.
In a reply, Alhaji Sulemana Salaga expressed their appreciation to Mr Taylor for the gesture and assured him of their continued support and co-operation to ensure successful development of the Moslems community. 28 Jan. 05
